Giridih: Deaths mar Chhath festivity in this village
Giridih: The festive spirit of Chhath turned into sorrow for two families in Magrodih village under Mufassil police station in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Tuesday after four kids died of drowning at the river ghat. Women of the bereaved families were busy with Chhath rituals at the riverbank when the kids slipped from their guidance and ventured into the water to take bath.
However, the river turned into watery grave for them as soon as they stepped into the river owing to surge in water level. The deceased were identified as Suhana Kumari, Sonakshi Kumari, Munna and Diksha Kumari. Giridih SDPO Anil Kumar Singh confirmed the incident.
Union minister and Khunti MP Arjun Munda expressed shock over the incident. In a tweet, he expressed condolence and demanded district administration for early compensation to kin of the victims.
