Gumla: Top rebel gunned down in sleep
Gumla: Unidentified assailants killed a top commander of Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a breakaway faction of CPI (Maoists) during his sleep in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday triggering fear in Lawadag village under Ghagra police station in Jharkhand’s Gumla district. Police on Sunday began probe after learning about the incident. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Sukar Oraon, who along with his squad was involved in a fierce encounter with security forces in Latehar in September this year in which a Jharkhand Jaguar’s deputy commandant Rajesh Kumar suffered casualty, said police.
Police however ruled out any encounter behind Oraon’s murder and suspected that the incident could be fallout of his rift within his organization.
“Some of his associated may have eliminated him in a planned manner going by the way he was killed. He was in deep sleep when unidentified people pumped bullets on his. His face and body was covered with a blanket through which bullets pierced through it,” said an official, adding that police also retrieved 10 blank catridges from the crime spot this morning.
Oraon hailed from Lohardaga district and was recently active in Lawadag region with his men, said a cop who had visited the spot to being probe in the morning.
Talking to reporters, Gumla SDPO Manish Chandra Lal too conceded it stating that Oraon was sleeping near a tree in Lawadag region where he got killed. “It looks that he was killed by his own men or some known associates in a planned manner,” he said. JJMP here is active in regions of Latehar, Gumla and parts of Lohardaga district.
