Man held for raping 14 year old for 2 years in Simdega

Simdega: A 58-year-old Jeevan Kandulna was arrested by Thetaitangar police in Jharkhand’s Simdega district on Friday for raping and molesting a 14 year old minor in Ghutbahar Kuwartoli village for the last two years. Simdega police in an official statement informed that a formal complaint in this regard was lodged at Thetaitangar police station on Thursday (October 7) after which police conducted raids to trace and nab the accused. “The culprit was held from Ghutbahar forest in the district,” said police.

The culprit is booked under section 376 of IPC and section 4/6/8 of POCSO act. All these sections pertain to rape and sexual assault.

According to police, the girl’s father works in a private company in Kerala while the victim lived in the village with her mother. The accused began preying on her two years back after finding her alone at home after her mother left for her farm to pursue agricultural activities.

“Initially, the accused befriended her by giving toffees and toys and gradually after he developed a rapport with the victim, he started abusing her. The victim lived in fear all these while as the accused had threatened her of dire consequences. However, she revealed her ordeal to her mother recently fearing that she may have got pregnant. Considering the sensitivity of the crime, local police lodged the case and began promptly began the investigations,” read the police statement.

The accused had fled from the village soon after he learnt about the FIR. “However, a special team formed by the local police station succeeded in tracing him to a nearby forest and arresting him. He has been forwarded to the jail,” said the police.
