Morabadi shoot-out: Five held in Ranchi
Ranchi: Ranchi police arrested five persons in connection to the broad daylight shootout in capital’s Morabadi area, a high profile zone having residences of top bureaucrats and politicians. The incident occurred last Thursday opposite former CM and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supremo Shibu Soren’s residence in which a history sheeter Kalu Lamba had died.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, senior SP S K Jha said that those arrested were identified as Gyan Ranjan, Sandip Kumar, Sonu Kureshi, Ravish Bhardwaj and Bittu Khan. Police also seized a bike, two country-made pistols, a country-made gun and eight cartridges, he said.
“Gyan, Sandip and Sonu were directly involved in committing the crime while Ravish is accused of preparing the plot. The murder was related to land dispute,” he said. SSP said that special teams were formed to crack the case under city SP Saurav which held raids since then to nab the culprits. “We are in lookout for two more accused in this case and will be held soon,” he said.
On Thursday, five criminals on two bikes opened pointed firing on a car killing Kalu and injured two others. The incident exposed the law and order in the city putting city police in the dock. In a knee-jerk reaction, district administration thereafter order prohibitory order in Morabadi area, which is also a popular food zone, robbing over 100 vendors dependent on daily earnings here, of their business. Opposition BJP has questioned the move to evict vendors as government’s inefficiency in maintaining law and order stating that the orders are an attack of livelihood of small traders and those dependent on daily earnings.
