Ranchi: Police on Friday arrested five persons on charges of stealing bikes from twin districts of Ranchi and Khunti and passing it off to PLFI, a banned extremist outfit. Police said that the gang of bike lifters mostly targeted the rural markets for ease of operation.
Police have identified the accused culprits as Phanishwar Gope, Awadhesh Pathak, Sudhir Kumar Sahu, Shiv Kumar Soni and Sanjay Lohra. As many as seven bikes were also recovered following raids at different place based on their confession.
Addressing the media on Friday night, rural SP Naushad Alam said that Lapung police begun probe in connection to theft of a bike from a local inter-college on October 15. As the investigation progressed, police zeroed on to a large nexus between bike lifters with PLFI links.
Alam said, “Bero DSP Rajat Manik Baxla led the probe initiated following the theft under Lapung police station area.” Police first held Phanishwar, Awadhesh and Sudhir and traced two stolen bikes.
