Ranchi: Over a month after accident, man running from pillar to post to file FIR

Ranchi: A Jagannathpur resident is struggling to lodge an FIR in local police station against a biker for negligent driving who allegedly hit his 75-year-old mother and injured her grievously outside the house in September this year. Mintu Paswan, in his mid-50s, on Friday knocked the doors of senior SP S.K.Jha pleading for help and action against the ‘erring’ police officers of Jagannathpur police station.

According to Paswan, the mishap occurred on the night of September 20. “At about 7.30pm, my mother was standing outside her house when a biker rammed on to her in speed. He was also highly drunk. Since we were busy initially with medical exigencies, I could only go to local police station on November 6 to submit a formal complaint seeking FIR. I was assured of action and was given a receiving receipt from the police station. But till date, the FIR hasn’t been lodged,” he rued.

Paswan claimed that the biker works as a contractor in Mecon, a PSU. “Initially, the culprit promised to bear the medical cost but later dragged his feat.” He added that numerous visits to the police station seeking lodging of FIR has remained futile so far after which he has submitted a plea at SSP office for help.

“The Jagannathpur police station in-charge Abhay Kumar Singh is now charging at me that I am trying to file FIR on back date to extort money. If that is the case, why did thana officials accept my complaint at the first place on November 6. I suspect, the accused may have bribed some officials to not file the case,” he said.

Officer in-charge Abhay Kumar Singh couldn’t be contacted as he didn’t pick up the phone. The story will be updated once we get his version.
