Jharkhand: NCPCR seeks report from DGP on H’bag teen’s brutal murder

Ranchi: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has shot a letter to state DGP Neeraj Kumar Sinha asking for detailed report along with the action taken status within seven days in connection to brutal murder of a 17 year old youth in Hazaribag identified as Rupesh Kumar Pandey during Saraswati idol immersion procession in Barhi on the night of February 6. The incident had triggered communal violence prompting district administration to suspend internet services in four districts including Hazaribag for over 24 hours.

NCPCR’s chairperson Priyank Kanoongo in his letter dated February 10 as that the commission was issuing letter to state police seeking probe report after taking cognizance of a complaint filed before them by one Sashank Raj, BJP’s youth wing co-incharge in Orissa. “The complainant has informed NCPCR that the 17-year-old youth was killed by some anti-social elements by beating him brutally. The local police is trying to underplay the incident and is also accused of exerting pressure on local eye witnesses and family members to weaken the case. Prima facie, the murder of the youth looks serious to us in the light of the complaint filed by complainant. Therefore, we ask you (DGP) to file detailed report after an impartial probe into the whole episode within seven days,” the letter read.

Opposition BJP on the other hand had dubbed the incident as ‘mob-lynching’ even though Hazaribag police has denied it. Police had filed named FIR against about 27 people, most of whom hailing from Muslim community. Four persons have so far been nabbed while Hazaribag SP Manoj Ratan Chothe on Thursday announced of forming a special investigation team (SIT) to arrest the remaining accused.
