BJP: Opposition plans ante against Hemant govt on fuel prices, panchayat polls

Ranchi: Jharkhand BJP has announced to hold signature campaign across all petrol pumps in the state on November 25 against Hemant Soren government’s apathy in reducing value added taxes (VAT) on petrol and diesel. The saffron will also hold agitation from November 27 against delay in panchayat polls. Decisions to this effect were taken during its executive committee meeting held on Tuesday in Ranchi.

Addressing media in the evening, BJP state general secretary Balmukund Sahay said, “Centre has reduced prices on petrol and diesel prompting many other states mostly run by BJP to cut down on its VAT but in Jharkhand, Soren government is unmoved and apathetic towards public cause.” He added, “On November 25, the party will hold signature campaigns at petrol pumps to mount pressure.”

BJP is also upset with the delay in panchayat polls, which are delayed by a year due to covid-19. “Now, the situation is congenial but why is state government running away from conducting panchayat polls? The only reason is that it wants to weaken panchayat bodies and run it through government officials so that it can continue corruption at grassroots without any checks. But due to delay in panchayat polls, central funds meant for rural developments are blocked and overall development has taken a hit,” he said, adding that on November 27, state BJP will hold series of protests against it.

The party also heavily criticized the coalition government in the state during today’s deliberations on overall governance. “What is there to celebrate?,” asked Sahay. “The overall law and order has turned worse since this government came into begin. Illegal sand, stone, and other forms of mining are going unabated. After promising to give five lakh jobs per year, it is dilly dallying on it while farmers, poor and other marginalized are suffering from myriad woes of misgovernance,” he noted.
