Congress: Avinash Pande is new Jharkhand affairs in-charge post RPN’s exit

Ranchi: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed senior party men and CWC member Avinash Pande as Jharkhand in-charge on Tuesday hours after his predecessor R.P.N.Singh exited the party to join BJP earlier in the day. Pande is currently party national general secretary too and in the past won Rajya Sabha polls from Maharashtra in 2010.

Singh, who was with Congress for 32 years and was also the union minister (state) in the past, took everyone by surprise after tendering his resignation in the morning to join BJP ahead of Uttar Pradesh polls. Few months back, Jitendra Prasada, another tall Congressman dumped the party for BJP ahead of the ensuing assembly polls in UP.

Jharkhand Congress however didn’t see it as a surprise as insiders said talks about Singh’s inclination towards BJP and his possible attempt to switch sides was doing rounds since last year. Barkagaon MLA Amba Prasad in a tweet also accused Singh of trying to destablise the incumbent JMM-Congress-RJD alliance led by Hemant Soren in the state here. Mahagama MLA Dipika Pandey in another tweet said that Singh’s exit won’t affect either the party or the government. Many had even accused Singh of weakening the party despite being in power here.
