Covid deaths: J’khand to give 50k compensation to kin. Know how to apply
Ranchi: In a significant decision, Jharkhand government has decided to provide Rs 50,000 compensation to kin of all covid-19 casualties in the state. State health minister Banna Gupta, who is also the minister of the state disaster management department on Wednesday announced that government has sanctioned Rs 25.26 crore for compensating under this head and the money has been disbursed to all the 24 districts directing deputy commissioners to approve them to the eligible beneficiaries as per the defined protocols without delay. The compensation will be transferred to beneficiaries bank accounts, said Gupta.
He said, “While government can’t compensate the loss for the death of one’s near and dear ones, but in this troubled times, it is our efforts to provide some fiscal assistance to tide over the situation. The pandemic has unleashed scores of vagaries across the world, robbing employment, source of incomes and other forms of livelihoods. In our state too, similar situation exist while the government is working round the clock to provide cushion to the needy. This is just a token of our commitment to our people that the government is firmly standing by everyone in this state.”
A total of 5133 people died due to covid-19 in the state since the outbreak of the virus in March last year. Of all, Ranchi reported the highest casualty of 1585 people. The district has received 7.92 crores for compensation. Similarly, East Singbhum, which witnessed 1043 casualties, got over Rs 5 crore. (See the table for district wise breakup)
Detailing on the process for apply for compensation, the official communiqué informed that the applicant has to apply before respective circle officer/sub-divisional officer and also through online mode with the relevant documents. Following verification, funds will be disbursed to the bank account of concerned beneficiary. “Soon, online portal will be announced e-application,” said an official.
