Covid: Eight more deaths but new cases dip

Ranchi: Jharkhand logged eight deaths on Sunday but recoveries continued to outnumber recoveries continuing with the ongoing trend for close to a fortnight now indicating about the possibly downsizing of the ongoing third wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

As per the covid-19 bulletin issued by the state health department in the night, 1269 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours but recoveries stood at 3423 during this period. State’s collective caseload has now come down to 20,000 while the deaths surged to 5261.

East Singbhum (Jamshedpur) continues to remain the vulnerable district in terms of fatalities as four more deaths have occurred in the last 24 hours. On Saturday too, it logged four deaths out of nine fatalities, three on Friday out of nine deaths accounted in the state. Other districts where deaths were reported since Saturday include one each from Hazaribag, Deoghar, Dhanbad and Lohardaga.

As a respite, as many as seven out of 24 districts reported single digit growth of new cases, 13 got double digit spike and the rest including Ranchi and East Singhbhum has triple digit increment. “The good sign is that the quantum of new cases have fallen drastically,” remarked an official in the health department citing how since January 14, state is steadily seeing dip in infection spikes, arguing that the ongoing wave has probably started to flatten.
