Covid: Night curfew, closure of schools, other restrictions recommended in Jharkhand

Ranchi: State health department has recommended imposing night curfew from 6pm to 6am in Jharkhand in the wake of growing cases of covid-19. The state health department has sent a recommendation to the state disaster management department advising about host of restrictions for its consideration to curb the rapid surge in the covid spread.

On Saturday, state witnessed 1007 cases with Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribag, Dhanbad among others witnessing rapid spread compared to a week back.

As per the letter from the additional chief secretary of the health department, Arun Kumar Singh to disaster management department dated Jan 2, released in health department’s media group, which later went viral on social media, he has suggested to close all public parks and stadium till January 15. This apart, all gyms, swimming pools and indoor stadiums too be shut down for the same period.

“Night curfew can be imposed after 6pm to 6am till Jan 15 with exemption for essential shops and all shops of non-essential services must be completely closed on Sunday,” read the letter to disaster management department. It added that people of the state or from any other state may be advised to carry two dose certificate as pass for movement.

Other restrictions that are proposed/recommended till Jan 15 include: closure of all religious places for devotees, not more than 50 people for marriage, death ritual or any other social gathering and those present must be double vaccinated, closure of schools, colleges and coaching institutes and work should be on online mode, offices to run with 50 percent capacity etc.

State however is yet to make any formal announcement so far. Health minister Banna Gupta, who is also the minister for disaster management department didn’t receive call for further details.
