Deoghar: Pay more for quick darshan at Babadham on Jan 1

Deoghar: Devotees bound famed Baba Baidhyanath dham temple in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district on January 1, 2022 will have to shell out more to avail shirgra-darshan (quick darshan). Against the existing rate of Rs 250, the district administration and temple management has decided to charge Rs 500 per ticket.

Officials said that the decision has been taken as part of crowd control to the temple, which is home to one of the 12 jyotirlingas and houses lord Shiva, on the occasion of New Year as thousands of people both from the state and neighbouring regions such as Bihar, Chattisgarh, Odisha and Bengal often head to pay obeisance here on January 1 every year.

Confirming the developments, sub-divisional officer (civil), who is also in-charge of the temple committee, said, “We have decided to charge Rs 500 for quick darshan facility per person (coupon) on January 1 against Rs 250. We are also shifting the ticket coupon counter from temple premise to more open space at Jalsar site in view of expected rush.”

As part of crowd control in the wake of rising cases of covid-19 in the state amid fears of Omicron scare, Deoghar administration as well as Dumka district administration where Basukinath temple is located, had already mandated double vaccination for seeking entry into the temple on January 1.

In Jharkhand, covid cases are once again on steep rise with 344 new cases detected last night taking the total active cases to 992. The spurt has triggered concerns among officials apprehending fears about start of a third wave in the state.
