Dhanbad: Budget allocates funds for DC rail-line diversion project in coal capital

Ranchi: The union budget 2022 tabled by finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Tuesday has approved Rs 142.06 crore for double lane of the ongoing route diversion project of Dhanbad-Chandrapura (DC) rail link, which passes through fire zone coalfield area in Dhanbad. Ministry of railways have rolled out a project to divert the existing route through Bhojudih and Tilaiya. Union ministry of railways have informed about the allocation of funds through its official twitter handle.

In September last year, Dhanbad district administration had resumed efforts in coordination with the railways to fast track the pending diversion project of this rail route. RITES Kolkata, a wing of the railways, informed the authorities that they had begun fresh survey to prepare the detailed project report.

Notably, DC line earlier began between Dhanbad and Katras and was later extended to Chandrapura in 1930. However, the line came under threat and issues of safety owing to the underground fire as it passes through Jharia coalfield. Railways had announced to close the line in 2017 but was later reopened in 2019 owing to slew of protests and agitations locally.
