The incident occurred in Mahuar village in the morning when Marandi was touring the hamlet with vaccination team as part of door to door campaign to increase vaccination coverage. He charged on me with an iron rod.” Police have detained the person.

Notably, state government has rolled out month long vaccine drive across all the districts since December 16 with an aim to achieve 100 percent coverage by January 15. The rate of inoculation however is still to gain pace even as 10 days have passed since the start of the special drive. As per last night’s vaccine bulletin, of 2.41 eligible beneficiaries, 75 percent have taken their first dose while only 44 percent have received both the shots. As far as Giridih is concerned, only 37 percent of the total estimated adult population (17,88,159) are fully vaccinated so far.
