Hemant’s Christmas message: Don’t let the guards down against covid-19
Ranchi: Chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday appealed people to not let their guards down stating that the fight against covid-19 pandemic is still not over and asked residents of the state to celebrate Christmas and New Year with heightened precautions.
He said that since the outbreak of the covid-19 pandemic in March last year, the state along with people’s cooperation has emerged as one of the best states to effectively fight the virus through multi-pronged approach. CM spoke to reporters briefly during his visit to Archbishop House at Purulia Road in the evening to wish archbishop and other bishops on the occasion of Christmas. He said, “The Yelutide spirit has set in and it’s a festive occasion for everyone but I feel sorry to remind you all that we should let the guards down against covid-19.”
Ranchi archbishop Felix Toppo, bishop Theodore Mascarenhas among others too were present on the occasion. They also treated Soren with the customary cake on the occasion. Several other people cutting across the political parties mainly from the ruling JMM and Congress called upon archbishop separately to wish everyone on the day.
Different leaders of the Church too called upon people to celebrate Christmas this time in a simple manner rather than indulging in lavish spending. The leader appealed faithful to do charity to help the poor to mark the festival.
This time, the Archbishop House only just put up a simple crib to celebrate Christmas unlike earlier times in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. To thwart crowd, some of the churches such as the GEL church has announced to live stream the midnight Christmas mass on tonight (December 24) and other services on Saturday (December 25).
