Jailed Lalu Prasad referred to AIIMS
Ranchi: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, who is currently serving jail term in Ranchi after his conviction in fodder scam cases, will be sent to AIIMS in Delhi for his treatment. He is currently lodged at state run Rims in Ranchi where a team of doctors referred him to AIIMS on Tuesday.
According to reports, Rims director Kameshwar Prasad told local journalists here today morning after a meeting of the medical board that Lalu’s health condition is deteoriating due to kidney damage and other age old related ailments and required to be referred to higher centre for treatment at the earliest. Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Central Jail authorities will now have to take a call on when to send him to Delhi. Sources however said that Lalu is likely to be sent to Delhi later in the day today.
He was convicted in the fifth and last fodder scam case related to Doranda treasury on February 15 this year by a special CBI court. On February 21, court gave him five years jail term and imposed fine of Rs 60 lakh. Lalu has been convicted in all five cases related to fodder scam involving different treasuries in Jharkhand and got different jail terms. CBI had pegged the fraud worth Rs 950 crore.
