Jharkhand: Covid cases rising but patients reporting non-severe symptoms, say doctors

Ranchi: Even as the state continued to report four-digit growth of new Covid-19 cases for third consecutive day in the last 24 hours with one death, medical experts in the state has urged people not to panic but continue taking precautions, citing low hospitalization trend so far, unlike the two previous waves.

According to the health department data released on Monday, as many as 1481 new cases of infection were recorded in the last 24 with one death in East Singbhum. State’s current active cases stand at 5218.

However, the ratio of hospitalization vis-à-vis infections in the recent times has been very low.  Dr Jogesh Gambhir, owner of Ranchi based Raj Hospital and president of Jharkhand chapter of Association of Healthcare Providers in India (APHI), “While cases are on rise undoubtedly, but the good thing so far has been that requirement of hospitalization has been very low. Whoever is currently admitting are with co-morbid conditions. We appeal people not to panic, but take precautions. Covid symptoms in people are subsiding in two-three days in this current wave. Even though, state is still to officially report Omicron cases, but going by our clinical experiences, we can clearly say that the new variant is already active in the state.”

State doesn’t have a genome sequencing machine as yet as a result of which it is sending samples to a lab in Bhubaneshwar for testing, which is often time consuming.
