Jharkhand: In a first, High court announces live streaming of hearings

Ranchi: Jharkhand high court has announced to start live streaming of court’s proceedings for public on pilot basis from December 15 i.e. today. A formal order in this regard has been issued by the registrar general.

The notice pasted on the high court’s website read, “Please take notice that the live streaming of the Court’s proceedings of court number 12 and 10 on virtual dates of hearing only is going to be launched from December 15, 2021. Viewers can watch the live streaming by clicking the Live window in the menu bar of the website of the high court of Jharkhand.” Patna high court too started similar activity from December 11 in order to bring more transparency. According to reports, Jharkhand high court will be the sixth such high courts across the country to adopt this facility.

Lawyers have welcomed the move. A lawyer of high court said, “Live streaming will certainly bring in more transparency and accountability which judiciary is now aiming to achieve through innovative means. We welcome this move at a time when the covid-19 pandemic is still not over.”
