MSP: Paddy procurement begins in state

Ranchi: State food and civil supplies department minister Rameshwar Oraon along with agriculture minister Badal Patralekh on Wednesday formally called the start of paddy procurement in Jharkhand by taking part at a formal ceremony held in Namkum in Ranchi.

The government has planned to set up 562 procurement centres in all 24 districts to purchasing paddy crops on minimum support price (MSP). This year, government has fixed MSP of Rs 2,050 per quintal for normal paddy and Rs 2070/quintal for superior grade.

Oraon said that all those selling paddy at MSP centre will be given immediate 50% payments through direct benefit transfer (DBT). “For this, we are taking loan from SBI and Bank of India. Cabinet has already provided its nod to take loan of Rs 1552 crore,” he said, appealing all eligible farmers to sell their paddy at MSP centre to take benefit of the government scheme.

State government has set a target of procurement of eight lakh metric tonnes of paddy this year. Last year, it had fixed six lakh MT. Government has also fixed a cap of 2000 quintals of paddy procurement per farmer this time.
