Rims: 18 medical students barred from hostel over brawl
Ranchi: As many as 18 medical students of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) were on Tuesday suspended from the hostel in connection to a brawl between junior and senior students at the hostel campus last month.
On Tuesday, the state run RIMS released names of the students announcing it stating that the students will be kept out of bounds from the hostel campus with effect from October 18. Of the 18 students, five are debarred from the hostel for one year and the rest will be for three months.
Even though brawls over ‘liquor’ or otherwise is often common between students at Rims, but it is perhaps for the first time in recent memory that the state run medical college and hospital has resorted to such major disciplinary action.
“During the period of suspension from the hostel, students will not even be allowed to avail the mess facility or can they share room with other pals within the hostel campus,” read the notice.
The brawl between senior and junior students broke at hostel campus on the night of September 5 after a few seniors who were preparing for NEET exam objected to some of their junior student’ partying at the hostel campus. Some of the students in the party allegedly also consumed liquor. Later on, local Bariatu police had to rush to control the situation after which the college management set up an internal inquiry for thorough probe.
“The action has been taken based on the recommendations of the probe team,” informed a Rims staff on anonymity.
