Banna on 100 cr vax: PM must apologise to nation for cov spread, not celebrate, BJP hits back
Ranchi: Jharkhand’s health minister Banna Gupta slammed Narendra Modi government in the Centre for failing to control covid-19 pandemic in the country on Thursday, the day the nation celebrated 100-crore vaccination feat in India with BJP hailing the Prime Minister for the achievement. In Jharkhand too, opposition BJP held felicitation programmes for vaccinators and frontline workers across different districts. In Ranchi, BJP president Deepak Prakash led the celebrations in Harmu area.
Talking to a local electronic media, Gupta said, “What is there to celebrate at a time when lakhs of people have died during the pandemic? It is the Modi government which allowed the pandemic to spread in the country through its activities like Namaste Trump (welcome ex-US president Donald Trump’s visit to India amid the peak of the pandemic). Rather than spending energy in hosting such events, if the union government had focused on controlling the pandemic, the country wouldn’t have witnessed series of death.”
Gupta advised Modi to seek apology rather than busting into celebration. “During the second wave of the pandemic, almost everyone has lost some or the other person close to them due to negligence of the union government. It’s’ time to seek apology rather than celebrate,” he advised, adding that PM should say sorry to the County.
“But rather than doing so, at a time when the nation is staring at a third wave, they (BJP) are celebrating. The pandemic is far from over and such jigs could further lead to spread of the virus,” he asserted.
In Jharkhand, covid-19 vaccine kicked off on January 16 this year. So far, a meager 13.2% out of about 2.64 crore beneficiary in the state are fully vaccinated and 60.75% got their first dose, as per the records from the state health department. Overall, 60% of the eligible population got inoculated through 1.9 crore doses.
Reacting to health minister’s jibe, state BJP president Deepak Prakash criticized state government for failing to fulfill its mandate. “All that I want to say to the minister (Gupta) is that, he must start owning his government’s mistakes and lapses. He must accept and tell the public on scores of vax wastages that occurred in Jharkhand. He must also tell people the lapses in providing other medical facilities to tackle covid-19 despite centre providing funds and resources for PSA plants, oxygen cylinders among others,” he remarked.
