IAF: Chopper carrying Indian army chief crashed

Delhi: An army helicopter with chief of defence staff Bipin Rawan and 13 others on board crashed in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The Indian Air Force has confirmed it through a tweet but hasn’t yet commented anything on the decorated general of the army. According to reports, at least five bodies were found so far from the site. Rawat with his men took the flight from Delhi to Sulur. Further details are awaited.

IAF has stated that they have ordered an inquiry into the incident. Sixty-three year old Rawat in 2019 took charge as India’s first Chief of Defence Staff. Later, he was appointed the head of Department of Military Affairs.

Prayers poured from leaders in Jharkhand too. Former chief minister and opposition leader Babulal Marandi in a tweet prayed for his safety. Congress’s Mahagama MLA and party’s national general secretary Deepika Pandey too expressed her concerns in a tweet.
