Jharkhand: CBI files chargesheet in Dhanbad judge murder
Ranchi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the murder of Dhanbad judge Uttam Anand, is learnt to have filed chargesheet against two accused, in local CBI court here on Wednesday. CBI is still to formally issue a confirmatory statement of the developments, but sources aware of the developments maintained so.
The chargesheet has been filed against auto driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma under IPC sections of 302 (murder), 201 (evidence destruction) and 34 (common intention for the crime).
Judge Anand was mowed down by a speeding auto on July 28 near Randhir Verma chowk in Dhanbad while he was returning from morning walk. Jharkhand police formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case and held both the accused tracing them through a CCTV footage which went viral thereafter. Initially, police dubbed it as a case of hit and run ruling out any foul play. However, shocked over the incident, Jharkhand high court and Supreme Court took cognizance of the matter. Later on, high court referred the case to CBI after being unhappy over the police by state police.
