Hockey: Haryana clinches trophy, Jharkhand bags silver in 12th HI Junior Women National meet

Ranchi: Jharkhand settled for silver after losing out to Haryana by 3-0 in the summit clash for the trophy in the 12th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2022 in Kakinada on Sunday. Haryana’s victory rode on superb performance of the team as Sakshi Rana (4′, 60′) scored a brace, while Kanika Siwach (45′) scored the other goal during the final.

Speaking about his team’s victory, Hockey Haryana’s Coach Azad Singh Malik said, “We are very happy that we have won the competition, especially because we have won it for the second consecutive time. We defeated Hockey Jharkhand in the Final of this tournament last time as well, however, this time we have won by a bigger margin.”

Azad Singh Malik further added, “The players in the team carried out short passes very well throughout the tournament which was the best aspect of the team’s performance throughout the competition. This tournament holds high value for the players because if they do well here then they can move up the ranks in their career.”

Jharkhand Hockey president Bholanath Singh, who too was present during the match, however termed the team’s performance as satisfactory stating that the lessons learnt from the tournament will help the team improve their skills in upcoming matches.

“Our girls have been consistent and exhibited good game but it wasn’t just our day. This was for the fifth time in a row that we managed to reach to the finals,” he said. Meanwhile, Odisha won bronze by defeating Maharashtra 4-0.
