Jharkhand: Gumla girl makes it to national squad of senior women football team
Ranchi: Jharkhand’s female soccer player, Sumati Kumari, hailing from remote Gumla district has made it to the final senior women’s team for AFC Asian cup, which is expected to start soon in Mumbai later this month. The 18-year old talent is the lone player from the state in the senior squad.
“Sumati was part of seven member U-17 team who were brought back from their homes after chief minister’s intervention to Morabadi in Ranchi for dietary support & training. Due to covid-19 induced lockdown in 2020, the training was halted,” read a communiqué from CM’s office.
Later on, following state government’s proactiveness, a three month training national camp was also held in Jamshedpur. Sumati was part of the India camp.
“She hails from a very poor family & has been one of the most promising players in India in the last 2-3 years. She’s product of the district residential sports centre. Since May 2020, she was being fully looked after by the state government,” claimed CMO.
